Excursion of Bharatpur- Deeg

Deeg-
One of the famous rural destinations of Rajasthan is Deeg. One can spend a hilarious time hear by exploring the ramparts or listening to the sweet folk lore. This beautiful garden town lies about 36 km north of Bharatpur on the way to the famous sanctuary. This small town is equipped with the beauty of magnificent and impressive palaces and famous as this place was the tranquil retreat of the former royal family of Bharatpur. Today, it is noted for the well laid out gardens studded with sparkling fountains, colorful busy markets and the wonderful fort.

Deeg Fort -
The fort built by Raja Suraj Mal, stands majestically over a slightly elevated point, surrounded by impressive moats, ramparts and gateways. This fort was constructed on the eastern side of an elevated plain of Roop Sagar. The gateway is protected with anti-elephant spikes. Presence of a couple of bastions is another characteristic feature of the place. The largest bastion is named as Lakkha Buri. Most of the structures within the fort are in ruins. To spent whole day in the palace is not a big deal.
Gopal Bhavan -
This imaginatively designed palace was completed in 1760. This was the actual residence of Raja. It has beautifully laid gardens at its entrance and the rear overlooks the Gopal Sagar which is flanked with smaller pavilions Sawan and Bhadon. Sawon –Bhadon palace is the palace with hollow ceiling having rolling iron spheres in it. These spheres collide with each other producing a sound of raining clouds when the water is allowed to flow through the ceiling. Its beauty is unique in the evening in the golden rays of evening sun.
Deeg Museum is the place where the collection of articles, furniture and other things of the royal family has been exhibited. Other interesting structures are Suraj Bhavan, Purana Mahal, Nand Bhawan, Krishna Bhawan and Keshav Bhawan. All these palaces reflect strong Mughal influences and are of considerable historical value.
